NKY Contributor
LINK nky is looking for Contributors to help us deliver daily news and in-depth, solutions-focused coverage of Northern Kentucky. We need people who want a contract, part-time engagement covering specific stories or beats — and right now, our most urgent need is reporters who will show up to government meetings.
City councils. County commissions. School boards. Planning committees. This is the work that holds local power accountable, and it's the fastest way to get in the door at LINK. If you're someone who finds this kind of coverage genuinely interesting — or wants to learn — we want to hear from you.
We're a small team, so everyone we engage is a critical part of the organization. That means you'll need to work quickly, stay flexible, and understand that what we're building here is bigger than any one person or personality.
What We Expect from You
- Cover NKY government meetings and produce timely, accurate reports from those proceedings
- Manage assigned stories and pitch additional coverage in your areas of interest
- Take photos and potentially video at meetings
- Maintain notes and audio recordings from stories and sources for review when necessary
- Collaborate closely with our Community Editor and Executive Editor
Skills We Need You to Have
- Experience or education as a news reporter (we'll also consider strong candidates who are newer to the field and who have writing/communications experience)
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Basic multimedia knowledge (being able to take photos and video with your phone)
- Comfortable in government, political, and community settings
What You Can Expect from Us:
- Bi-weekly pay for stories published
- Editorial support and training to help you grow as a writer
- Flexibility - write for us without having to keep full-time hours
- Opportunities for growth and advancement, if you want them
You'll Need to Share Our Mission and Uphold Our Guiding Principles
Mission: LINK Media advances Northern Kentucky in the region, the commonwealth and the nation by providing transformative coverage of the news of the day with focus on the deeper issues that matter most to our community.
Guiding Principles:
We are:
Solutions-Focused: We don’t just report the news of the day. We dig deeper, informing our audience about how our community might solve its biggest issues.
Unapologetic NKY Fans: We believe in this community—in what it is today, and what it has the potential to become. We want to see this community advance, and we understand the part that we play in that advancement.
Inclusive: We explore the issues that affect all of Northern Kentucky, and give a voice to the diverse corners of our community, whether that diversity is economic, political, geographic or otherwise.
Good Stewards: It is our responsibility to make good use of our resources and to maintain a sustainable business model, so that we may serve the community long into the future.
Independent: We do not make endorsements, or publish our own opinions, about the issues that are facing Northern Kentucky. In addition to our reporting, outside opinions from multiple viewpoints will be sought, and clearly marked as such, in order to provide the robust debate that our community needs to make critical decisions about our collective future.
